Hello Classmates,
Because of travel plans this fall, we won’t be at the enjoyable reunion that I
know you will have.
Roger and I have been married 25 years
and have a lovely blended family. Grandchildren are a large part of our
lives. We are both retired now. He was a private investigator and I was a
Literacy Specialist. I taught Reading
Recovery, early intervention program, and led workshops and seminars for
teachers, tutors and parents of at-risk earl readers.
Quilting has become my hobby and occupies much of my spare time. The quilt clubs of which I am a member make
quilts for Wounded Warriors and Quilts of Valor as well as other charities. My Civil War Quilt Club uses reproduction
fabric of the 1850-1860’s and studies the time period.
Roger and I belong to the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church and have always been
active. I loved teaching Sunday school
and singing in the choir. We both sing
in the Blackhawk Chorale.
Much of our summer is spent at “our” lake in Northern Minnesota. My favorite thing at this time of life is to
sit in the boat in the middle of the lake and watch the sun set behind the
majestic pines, birches and hardwoods.
We listen to the loons call and then head to shore to enjoy a small
campfire with neighbors and friends before bedtime…..and thanks to modern
science, the mosquitoes don’t carry us away.

We retired in 2009. Phyllis in January and myself at the end of June. And the fun began. We took a three week trip to such far away places as Mattoon,
Indianapolis IN, suburb of Cleveland OH, suburb of Cincinnati OH, Burlington KY
Johnson City TN, Atlanta GA and Biloxi MS.
At each stop were friends of our past 45 years of marriage. Next was a cruise through the Panama Canal,
a week in Barcelona Spain. Cruised the
Mediterranean Sea Greek Isle, a week in the hill country of Texas, a week in
Steamboat Springs CO and a week in Destin FL.
In Steamboat we met up a friend I was in the Military with some 41 years
ago. We continue to live in Tomball TX
located Northwest of Huston. Summer may
be hot here but we still don’t scoop snow.
We have 3 children. Each are
married and there are 4 grandchildren.
They all live within 30 minutes away.
So you know, we won’t be moving any time soon.

Last fall my husband passed away with cancer.
This Sept 20th would have been our 25th wedding
anniversary.
I have 3 children Brenda, Wayne, Danielle, seven grandchildren, and 2
great-grandchildren.
Eight years ago I retired form Walmart. Enjoy retirement a great deal. I read,
sew and camp.
Plan a trip to Hawaii next year.

Well, it’s been 5 years since I have
seen some of you and there are the ones I see here, there, and everywhere. I have not done very much in the last 5
years.
I have been with walmart since 2002 and
I am a cashier.
My last trip to England we went to
Liverpool and it was as if I was in a dream.
Pinch me, I may wake up.
I also became a Catholic in 2008. This
was something that I have wanted to do since 1964 but procrastinated in doing
it.
I grew my hair for Locks of Love for the
second time. I am currently doing it
again and I will not be getting it cut for a year. It is a worthy thing to do to help some person who cannot grow
their own hair.
I hope to see you in 5 years, 2016.

I entered nursing school in Decatur,
then know as Decatur and Macon County Hospital School of Nursing, the September
following graduation. I graduated in
September 1964, passed the state boards soon after. I married in 1965, had two
children, the first went into automotive after four years in the Army, second a
practicing attorney in Michigan. I
earned a B.S. degree in Health Care Administration in 1988 and became a single
mother the next year. I returned to the
Coles County area in 1995, and am now planning to move back to the family farm
on which I grew up. And incidentally, I
have worked as a Registered Nurse since graduating from nursing school, and I

50 years this January. Randy and I are
semi-retired. Randy retired after 31
years at RR Donnelley and I had my own

a few hours a week at our son’s grocery store.

As for my health it’s doing pretty good
for an old guy. It seems that what the
urologist told me wasn’t quite factual.
He wanted to start treatment on me immediately, which would have put
about 200K in his pocket, but didn’t want to do a biopsy, net result I went to
another urologist and had the biopsy preformed I have no prostrate cancer. That
is the kind of news that you don’t complain about.

Has it really been 50 years since we
graduated?!! The years have definitely
raced by! My mind doesn’t feel like I
am that old, but the body feels older – the joints are degenerating. I had to have a left shoulder replacement
done in April, 2009. On July 20th
I will have a right knee replacement. When that is healed, I will have the
right foot repaired (wires and bone fusions) about mid-October. I should be able to walk into our Class 50th
Reunion, between surgeries. I hope to
be “running” around well enough to travel to Florida for January. Gene and I will celebrate our 46th
Wedding Anniversary on August 15th.
Daughter, Theresa, still lives in Springfield, IL with our two
granddaughters, ages 8 and 11 years – is Medicaid Director for the State
of Illinois. Our son, Michael, is still in Atlanta, GA area working for
IBM. My parents are both still living
in Mattoon. We “keep the roads hot”
driving between Mattoon and Springfield.
I am surely one of the “sandwich generation”, between caring for parents
and grandchildren. These are the
“Golden Years”!

Greetings to all from Prescott, AZ. Wow! It’s hard to believe it has been 50
years. Arizona is celebrating it’s
centennial starting in Prescott in September as the first territorial capital
was here. My wife, Vivian, is busy
planning and jurying the exhibit of the 100 best artists in Arizona as part of
the celebration.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Vivian is eager to meet my classmates.
It is also a chance for us to see my family again. Mon is 94 and holding on and sisters Sue and
Jan are still there. If not for our
animals we must leave behind we would probably drive out and spend more time in
Mattoon.
Since I recently took up golf, I am glad

As a results of my retirement sojourn of the National Parks of the
South and the West, I was seduced by the High Dessert of Utah and the easy
access to 5 of these parks. I packed up my cameras and watercolor paints and
moved west in Oct of 09. Next Spring I’ll go on an 8 day float trip on
the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon with a group of 12 artists.
The trip of a lifetime has raided my savings, so I will be unable to attend the
reunion. I’ll be thinking of the fun kids that I grew up with in that
best of all times in America.

I was planning to come this year, but was in hospital recently with
Sepsis (infection of blood system) and still not up to full speed yet!
I am President of my condo association.
and it keeps me pretty busy. Sometimes you would think I was a
landlord. I go to store etc. in my power chair. I just wish I had a
bigger battery so I could go faster and farther!!! My son Marc's job was
downsized and he now sells cars for Carmart in Savoy. My grandson Sean is
a Senior in Monticello and busy applying to colleges. My step-father Jack
Timmons passed away last Sept. My mother still lives in Tucsan, AZ.
She just turned 90, sharp as a tack and doing great. I will miss seeing
everyone, have a drink or two for me.

Retired in March 2007. Now I don’t know how I had time to
work. We went on a mission trip to
Guatemala in 07.
I had the chance of a lifetime last summer (Bill doesn’t like to fly so he
stayed home and mowed the yard). I went
to Egypt, Jordan and Israel. Saw the
pyramids, Petra, Masada, and many places in Israel. Spent 4 days in Jerusalem and was able to be on Temple Mount on
the anniversary of the first and second destruction of the temple. It was an awesome and life changing trip.

It can’t be 50 years since we
graduated. These 50 years have been
good ones. Thanks to our 2 sons and
daughters-in-law we have 3 marvelous grandchildren.
We spent our summer playing with
them. Lots of swimming, boating and
water trampoline time. We found time to
do some motor home camping with them.
Gregg and I have been married 45
years. With both retired, we are
grateful to be healthy enough to do the things we enjoy.
We are off to Mexico for a “beach
fix”. Then back to Europe for a couple
weeks to visit my sister who lives in Vienna, Austria.

It was a tossup,
do I come to the reunion or do I fish in the Musky Inc.’s Hayward musky tournament
which is the same weekend. As I have already been registered in the
tournament (at a good price I might add), the tournament wins out.
As much as I would like to see some of the ole (old) people, I’m
afraid the timing is bad. It is also my wife’s birthday that weekend.
As
you may, or may not know, we own and operate a Bait & Tackle shop and that
time of year is very productive for us. To close the store for a long
weekend would impose a major hit to the bottom line.
You may (for me)
tell all the classmates “hello” and have a great time while there. “Neat
and sharp, topped by none, we are the class of “61”!!!

These last 50 years seemed to fly by, making me realize the brevity of

We are both still working, not yet ready to retire. Information technology is

Joe, daughter-in-law, Peggie, and granddaughter, Katherine (now 16) are all

I really wanted to attend the reunion,
but I was just in Mattoon in August for several days and then in Chicago for a
month visiting my son and wife who just had a new baby. I just returned to
Florida where we live in the Villages, a retirement resort community of 80,000
people.

had a nice visit and caught up on old times. I also drive around Mattoon and

handicapped son Troy in a car accident on June 25th. He was 38 and lived
next door and depended on us for a lot of things. Our lives have changed
forever and it has left a big hole in our hearts.
On a happier note. We have 13 grandkids (10 boys and 3 girls) who all live around close except for the 2 youngest in Jackson TN. Three of our children own their own businesses and we are very proud of all of them. I buy, and sell antiques and have a booth in Altamont, IL.I guess you could say that is my hobby and my passion. I also love to decorate. I volunteer at our local Catholic Charities as a cashier and also at our local blood bank.

Barb and I have been married 46
years. Our three sons have given us
seven grandchildren: four granddaughters and three grandsons. In my opinion, granddaughters are higher
maintenance than grandsons.
We’re both retired but remain quite active with church, neighborhood, and babysitting activities. Golf keeps me busy on Wednesdays and I jog about 20 miles the rest of the week.
I was disappointed to read Mattoon is
leaving the Big 12 Conference, but hope it will be a good move for all of our
sports teams and academic endeavors.

Dear Classmates
What do you say to people who you saw almost daily a half century ago?
Glad to know you are still kick'in.
Betty and I will celebrate our 29th anniversary this September and our daughter
Laura will finish her student teaching and graduate from the University of Colorado
in Boulder.
We have built a second home on the North Platte River near Walden,
Colorado. It is two hours from Ft. Collins and we spend almost half of
our days there. The trout fishing is excellent and I will hunt deer and
elk in November. My ex-wife Sherri (Condict) Jackson also lives in Ft.
Collins and we all get together on holidays with my daughters Sarah, Erin
and sometimes Joanna who lives in Madrid- Spain. If any of you are planning a
trip that takes you through Colorado, drop me an email and maybe we could
rendezvous and say hello. Please give each fellow classmate a big hug
from me. I would enjoy having you as a friend on face book.

Well it is 50 years…WOW!!
Jacob and I are still in Tucson,
AZ. Jacob is retiring as of July
1. We will begin to be winter visitors
or snowbirds this year. We will be
spending the summer in the Chicago area with our son (Hans) and fiancée
(Laura). We sell take little trips to
Wisconsin and Illinois. We are still
doing a lot of traveling, we have the cruising bug.

50 years, can you believe it?
Retired as an Air Traffic Controller February 2002. Married, wife Jeannie and 4

42. My daughter Tina died in a auto
accident November 20th 1993.
She had just turned 21. We
bought a condo in North Myrtle Beach, SC about 3 years ago and have been
enjoying that some. Need to go there
more. Hurricane Irene knocked the power
out for only 1 day. Still golf, but not
like I used to. We have 15 cats with
papers, but we feed 20. Love them all.

Go Green Wave! I’m looking forward to seeing the 1960 football team honored on Friday night. And I'm excited to see everyone who'll be at this momentous reunion. How can 50 years already have passed since graduation? Having lived, worked, and traveled around the country and some of the world and loved those experiences, I realize how lucky we all were to have grown up in Mattoon and at a simpler more peaceful time.
Steve and I have been married 46+ years and have 2 wonderful daughters, 4 terrific grandchildren, and 1 super son-in-law. We feel blessed to have gotten to this stage in our lives in good health. I am sad to see how many of our friends and classmates are no longer alive. I particularly remember Denny Burrell at the last reunion I attended. We had a long conversation about his work and his family. He was a good friend for a long time and I will miss him.I'll leave more details for the conversations we'll all have together.
